Juvenile detention program teacher arrested on child porn charge

A teacher at a San Diego-area boys' juvenile detention center is facing a federal child pornography charge after agents found explicit pictures of young girls at his home.

Edgardo Carlos Vilas declined to enter a plea on a single count of possessing child pornography when he appeared for his arraignment Monday in San Diego's federal courthouse. Forty-two-year-old Vilas has been in custody since his arrest last Friday.

According to a court document, agents traced Vilas to his home through a Web site he allegedly used to buy child porn.

A call to Vilas' court-appointed attorney was not immediately returned Monday.
