Paul Brauer - Repeat Sex Offender

A convicted sex offender was sent to prison for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl who lived in the Cedar Rapids apartment complex he managed.

Paul Brauer, 54, will spend up to 10 years in prison and pay a $1,000 fine following his guilty plea to third-degree sexual abuse and sentencing Jan. 11.

He admitted he forced the girl to perform sex acts at the apartment complex, according to court documents.

Brauer had been the manager of 26 Aossey Lane SW No. 1 at Village Southwest for about a month when the assault happened.

In 1992, Brauer was convicted of the same charge. In that case he admitted performing a sex act with a 9-year-old girl.

If the current case had gone to trial, court records show that another alleged victim would have been called to testify that Brauer sexually assaulted her when she was 10 in 2000.

When Brauer is released from prison, he must register as a sexual predator on the Iowa Sexual Offender Registry.
