Frank Bates - Repeat Sex Offender Strikes Again

A Perry county man received 15 years in prison Monday for a sex crime.

Frank Bates received his sentence from Circuit Judge Jack Meigs.

Bates, 32, had pleaded guilty to sex abuse in the first degree, according to District Attorney Michael Jackson.

“We will continue to declare ware on child molesters and ship them off to prison for a long time,” the district attorney said after the sentencing.

Court records show on Dec. 27, 2005, the Department of Human Resources was notified by a relative of a 6-year-old girl of suspected abuse by Bates.

The child was taken to a hospital where the physician found signs of abuse.

Bates was not related to the child. He was a registered sex offender at the time.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation Web site showed a conviction date of Nov. 5, 2001, for a Bates with the same name and birthdate. The Web site shows he was convicted of rape in the first degree.

The Web site also showed Bates as incarcerated in Donaldson Correctional Facility. He registered as a sex offender on May 22.
