Police executed a search warrant and arrested Jason Pate on Nov. 19, 2008 at Pate's home in Nashville.
Pate was charged with sexual exploitation of a minor after detectives seized two laptops networked together that were linked to a computer tower that contained multiple internal and external hard drives. According to a Metro police press release, the tower appeared to act as a computer server for the alleged purpose of sending and receiving massive amount of child porn.
The seized equipment contained thousands of sexual images of minors and stories that described the sexual molestation of children, including infants and toddlers. Police said the forensic analysis of Pate's computer system will take several weeks.
Pate, a registered sex offender, was previously convicted of exchanging child pornography over the Internet and was charged with sexual exploitation of a minor on Dec. 17, 1996, in Michigan.
"From all of the evidence recovered thus far, this man appears to be a major distributor of child pornography to any deviant person in the world who has access to a computer," said Chief Ronal Serpas.
On Wednesday, Pate, who worked at a computer software development company, was scheduled for a 9 a.m. court date in Judge Leon Ruben's general sessions court for a preliminary hearing.
Pate was lodged in the Davidson County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bond.
Federal authorities have also been briefed on the Pate's case given the magnitude and the suspect's prior federal conviction.
