Jeffrey Schaffer - Repeat Sex Offender - Tries to pull a fast one

Convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Schaffer, is back in jail after police found his stash of child porn hidden inside his TV.

For most of us, a television set only has one use, the one for which it was built. But a registered sex offender turned his TV into a secret place to hide his stash of child porn.

The Union Township, Clermont County man nearly got away with it.

Most of us are more interested in what's on TV than what's inside it, but Union Township Police say that wasn't the case for one local registered sex offender.

"To hide a full-size desktop computer inside a TV is something I've never seen before," said detective John Pavia.

That's right. A desktop computer inside a 43-inch TV set.

Detective Pavia says Jeffrey Schaffer, 41, went to prison four years ago after police found child pornography on his computer.

He was given another chance last year, but a condition of Schaffer's parole was he couldn't have a computer in his home.

In February, Schaffer's parole officer stopped by his apartment on Picadilly Square to make sure Schaffer was living up to his end of the deal and made a surprising discovery.

"The probation officer went inside to inspect the place, pulled the front off the TV and found a computer inside along with pornographic magazines and a disk."

Schaffer immediately went back to prison.

The computer was sent to a crime lab to confirm what detectives already suspected, that the Union Township sex offender just couldn't keep his eyes off disturbing images of innocent children.

Schaffer's father says someone gave his son the computer to fix, and he thinks it was a setup. However, police don't have any evidence to support that theory.

The images found on Schaffer's computer were also sent to the National Center For Missing and Exploited Children. It turns out one of the pictures was part of a 1999 immigration and customs enforcement case involving a child from Brazil.
