AN ELDERLY registered child sex offender who allegedly repeatedly drove past a group of schoolgirls while licking his lips has been granted bail to care for his ailing wife.
Franko Petric, 76, of Colyton faced Parramatta Bail Court yesterday charged with six counts of stalking and intimidation and one count of a convicted child sexual offender loitering near a public place.
A 15-year-old schoolgirl was walking home on Friday when a car pulled alongside her, police have alleged. The girl alleged the driver looked directly at her and began to lick his lips. The girl ran away and called triple 0.
Police said the man then stalked a group of five 12- and 13-year-old girls walking along the same street.
One of the girls told police her skirt blew up and the driver of a nearby car looked at her and licked his lips.
Police said the man drove off and made a U-turn and came back, drove slowly past the group, made another U-turn and came back again. The girls fled into the backyard of a house and noted the number plate of the man's car. They then ran to a nearby shop for help. Police later arrested Mr Petric at his home.
Mr Petric's legal aid counsel told the court his elderly wife required almost 24-hour care. The magistrate granted bail "not withstanding some serious concerns of a child protection nature". Mr Petric will face Penrith Local Court on November 5.
