Terry Blackmon - Repeat Sex Offender Civilly Committed

A Vernon County jury has found a Nevada man to be a sexually violent predator and committed him to a state treatment center beyond the prison terms to which he was sentenced.
The jury found Terry Blackmon to be a sexually violent predator this week.

Circuit Judge William Roberts ordered Blackmon committed to a treatment center in Farmington.

Blackmon was convicted in Vernon County in 1991 for raping a 5-year-old girl and was sent to prison for 15 years. He had pleaded guilty to third-degree sexual abuse of a 21-year-old woman in 1990 and was placed on two years of probation.

The state attorney generals office filed a petition for civil commitment of Blackmon on April 24, 2006, under the states sexually violent predator law enacted in January 1999, and the trial was held this week in Vernon County. Currently, there are 110 sexually violent predators being held by civil commitment in Missouri.
