Thomas Wayne Brandon, Sr - Repeat Sex Offender chased out of Wal Mart

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - A convicted sex offender is accused of exposing himself to an 8-year-old girl at a local store.

Dozens of angry shoppers chased him and held him until police arrived.

The girl's parents are glad he was caught and hope he stays in jail.

Despite previous sex offense convictions, Thomas Wayne Brandon, Sr., was out of jail. He was wanted on charges in several counties.

Cookeville police said the girl was walking down a toy aisle in a Wal-Mart when the 57-year-old man exposed himself to her.

She ran and told her parents before pointing him out.

Police said he ran. The girl's parents and other customers chased him.

Brandon waved knife and threatened several people. He wasn't subdued until several customers pinned him down in the parking lot and an off-duty Gainsboro officer held him at gunpoint.

"We had just drilled her this week about strangers so I guess the Lord was preparing her for what was going to happen," said her mother, Jo Andrews about her daughter.

Brandon faces aggravated assault and felony indecent exposure charges. Brandon is also wanted in East Tennessee for other offenses including solicitation of a minor, public indecency, and violation of sex offender registry act.

Brandon was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of felony indecent exposure. He is currently being held without bond for related charges in Rhea and Roane counties.
