Donald James Malo - Repeat Sex Offender - WARNING issued

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Vancouver Police are warning the public about a convicted sex offender now living in a federal halfway house in Vancouver. Officers say Donald James Malo has been released after serving two-thirds of a five year sentence, and poses a significant risk of re-offending.

Police say Malo targets children. Malo, 62, is 6’1” and 200 lbs., with brown hair, green eyes, and he may have a long brown and grey beard. He has scars on his abdomen and his left forearm.
Police say Malo has three previous convictions for sex assaults against children, and while in federal custody, Malo was assessed as a high risk to re-offend sexually. Police say Malo has a history of grooming vulnerable children, as well as exhibiting active predatory traits.
Malo must abide by the following conditions:
  • no contact with any person under the age of 19 years
  • not to be found in or near any locations that are frequented by persons under the age of 19 years, including parks, schools and community centres
  • report all associations with persons who have children under the age of 19 years
Anyone witnessing Malo in violation of any of these conditions is asked to contact their local police department at 9-1-1.

"25% of all sex offenders re-offend within 15 years"
