Jared Daniel Conway - Repeat Sex Offender - Kidnapped child of friend who tried to help him

Previous conviction: RAPE with force

Supporters of a 14-year-old-girl kidnapped by a family friend who intended to rape her seethed, swore and even muttered threats as they stared down the man found guilty of the crime.

Sex offender Jared Daniel Conway, 39, was sentenced to 50 years to life in prison Monday in Stanislaus County Superior Court after pleading no contest to five felonies.
Conway looked back at the friends and family of the girl and asked to speak. He had been living with the girl's family for a month before the abduction, police said.

"I don't know why I can't control the impulses I have," Conway said. "I deserve to be locked away for good."

The 50-to-life sentence isn't the only time Conway may face. While in custody in Stanislaus County, Conway also admitted to murdering a girl in Tennessee in 2007, Deputy District Attorney Annette Rees wrote in a court brief. That case is pending.
Conway pleaded no contest last month in Stanislaus County to kidnap for the purpose of rape, assault to commit rape, false imprisonment, evading with injury, and hit and run with injury.

At 3 a.m. on July 5, 2008, the girl's father reported that she and Conway were missing from the family's north Modesto home.

Police found Conway's slipper in the girl's room. Her blanket was found outside the home along with a bracelet that looked as though it had been torn off, authorities said.

When Conway drove past the girl's home in the 2500 block of Garvey Avenue, officers who were there investigating the disappearance spotted his silver Honda Civic and gave chase.

About a mile from the house, Conway crashed into a Chevy truck, then ran.

The girl was found in the trunk of Conway's wrecked vehicle about three hours after she was reported missing.

Before the victim gave her statement Monday, she asked that video of the crime scene be shown.
In it, officers are shown having to cut off chunks of her hair to remove tape used as a blindfold. She had blackened eyes and cuts on her face.
"Every day, I think about it a little less," the girl said in court, sobbing.

She was flown to the University of California at Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for treatment of injuries she sustained in the crash.
