Calvin Marks - Repeat Sex Offender - Charged with raping girlfriend's child

Most offenders know their victim

A 44-year-old convicted sex offender was jailed in lieu of $1 million cash bail on charges he raped his live-in girlfriend’s child.

Calvin Marks was booked June 22 into the Washoe County Jail on four counts of sexual assault of a child under 14, assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence. His bail as set at $1 million cash only.

Reno police Sgt. Gerald Rhodes said sex crimes detectives alleged that Marks abused the girl in a home in the 300 block of Taylor Street during the first three weeks of June.

Rhodes said that Marks is a Tier-2 convicted sex offender, which means he was assessed by authorities as having a “moderate” risk to commit more sex offenses. Records show that in 2001 he was convicted in Las Vegas for attempted sexual assault with a deadly weapon.

Marks also goes by the aliases Calvin Colums and Mark Collins.

"25% of all sex offenders re-offend within 15 years"
.........Sarah Tofte

"On average most sex offenders are never caught again for a new sex offense, after five years, between 10 and 15 percent of sex offenders are detected, often convicted, of committing a new sex offense. If you follow them for ten years the rates go up somewhat, if you follow them as long as we’ve been able to follow them, which is about 20 years, the rates go up to somewhere between 30 to 40 percent of the total sample will eventually be caught for a new sex offense."
