State and local law enforcement officials are searching for a registered sex offender who has allegedly removed his electronic monitoring device and was being sought by city police for questioning in connection with an alleged sexual assault.
An active apprehension request was submitted Thursday by the state Department of Corrections for 31-year-old Brian G. Thomas. Thomas was registered as living at an apartment at 1102 Delafield St., though he was not found there by Waukesha police officers looking for Thomas early Thursday morning regarding an alleged incident on Grand Avenue, said Lt. William H. Graham Jr.
Alec Loftus, spokesman for the Department of Corrections, said in a voice message Friday afternoon that his department is working with Waukesha police to locate Thomas.
"He is out of range (of his electronic monitoring device) in violation of his rules of supervision and were working with ... law enforcement to apprehend him," Loftus said.
Thomas was convicted of third-degree sexual assault in 1996 in Milwaukee and has numerous cases, some still pending, listed on online state court records. He also has used the alias Brian C. Thomas, according to DOC online records.
