A judge sentences a man to prison for what the prosecutor calls a "horrific crime" - taking naked photos of his young niece, and putting them on his computer.
Earlier this year, David Stone was convicted in federal court of posession of child pornography and this separate case came out of that FBI investigation.
The Clark County Sheriff's Office checked to see if any of the child porn was of local victims, and it was.
David Stone is currently serving federal prison time for possession of child pornography. Now, after his guilty plea on two counts of taking naked photos of his young niece and putting them on a computer, Stone was back in court on Tuesday for sentencing on that local case.
His attorney, John Stosich, argued that Stone, with no prior criminal record, shouldn't serve any additional time longer than the federal sentence of seven years.
John Stosich: "David will be removed from any type of contact with society for a significant period of time."
Clark County Prosecutor Craig Simpson argued to Judge Joel Tingey that Stone should serve this sentence after the federal prison time ends because he knew his victim and produced the porn. Simpson called this a horrific crime.
Craig Simpson: "I can't think of any sorrier case than of victimizing children. They can't protect themselves. They are innocent, and he's taken that away from her."
The victim's mother, who did not want to be identified, pleaded with the judge to make Stone serve some prison time separate from the federal sentence.
Victim's mother: "I want him in prison to send a message to Mr. Stone and to the community that sex crimes against children are not acceptable. Help us be able to look into our sweet little girl's eyes as she grows up and tell her that he paid a price specific for what he did to her."
In June, Clark County Deputy Bart May, who took photographs of the inside of Stone's home, described from the witness stand that the house was packed with boxes and stacks of DVD's, VHS tapes and magazines of pornography.
Stone briefly told the judge he regrets what he did.
David Stone: "I am very sorry for what I've done. I know I have a problem. I'm gonna get help on it, I'm hoping. That's about all I can say, your honor."
Judge Joel Tingey said he believes Stone committed these type of crimes for years, but just wasn't caught until now. He says society has to protect children from people like stone.
Judge Tingey sentenced Stone to six to ten years, with a minimum of six. Despite the mother's pleas, this sentence will be served at the same time as the federal sentence.
It's not known if those photos of the young girl were ever shared with anyone on the internet.
Stone will be eligible for parole in six and a half years. Once out, he will have strict rules to follow that keep him away from computers and children and he will have to register as a sex offender.
