A Gassville man faces a felony charge of computer child pornography in Washington County Circuit Court stemming from allegations he tried to seduce a detective logged in as a 13-year-old girl.
Robert Davis, 60, of Gassville sent the detective sexually explicit messages in several conversations in July, according to a sworn arrest affidavit filed in court.
Davis turned himself in, pleaded not guilty to the charge and posted a $10,000 bond on Nov. 5, according to a case history provided by the court. He declined to comment Monday, except to say he has an attorney.
According to the arrest affidavit, Detective Cory Roberts of the Fayetteville Police Department portrayed a female minor on a Yahoo! Regional chatroom around July 10.
Davis, logged in as "silveradohdman72635," asked whether the "girl" had a boyfriend, was on "the pill" or was sexually experienced, and he asked if "she" lived near a motel, according to the affidavit.
In conversations over the next two weeks, Davis made other explicit remarks and made reference to meeting and having intercourse, according to the affidavit.
A search warrant was issued for Davis' home in the Red Apple Acres subdivision. A Gassville officer assisted Fayetteville police in locating the home but did not help with the actual search, Gassville Police Chief Tim Mayfield said. According to the arrest affidavit, Davis' computer was seized, along with a digital camera, a laptop and a disconnected computer.
The detective alleges in the affidavit that during the search, Davis admitted having sexually explicit chats online with a 13-year-old girl but said he had no intention of meeting her.
Under Arkansas law, computer child pornography, a class B felony, is committed if a person uses online services to "attempt to seduce, solicit, lure, or entice a child or another individual believed to be a child, to engage in sexually explicit conduct. ..."
A trial is scheduled for Feb. 5 in Washington County.
