A Baltimore man who possessed more than 5,000 images of child pornography and six movies of young children was sentenced yesterday to 14 years in prison for distributing child pornography by computer, federal officials announced.
Charles Christopher Furth, 46, made contact with an undercover U.S. Postal Service inspector in March 2006 and e-mailed the inspector videos of adult men having sex with young girls, officials said. Furth asked the inspector to send him a videotape of pornography involving four minors, ages 9 to 11, and mailed the inspector a check to cover shipping costs.
The check contained Furth's name and address, authorities said. Agents then searched his home in the 300 block of Eastway Court, north of Guilford, and found movies and pictures depicting child pornography.
Furth was arrested and charged by the U.S. attorney under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to protect children from online exploitation and abuse.
U.S. District Judge William D. Quarles Jr. ordered that Furth be supervised for life upon completion of his sentence. He also is not to have access to computers or the Internet without the approval of his probation officer.
