Patrick Collins, 26, was charged with three counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault and two counts of felonious sexual assault for an incident reported to Manchester police on New Year's Day.
About 4:30 a.m. on Jan. 1, the mother of a 10-year-old girl reported that she found Collins in her daughter's bed. Initially, Collins told police he had been giving the girl a massage, but later admitted to sexually assaulting her.
Judge James Barry yesterday sentenced Collins under the new enhanced sentencing law for first-time sexual offenders who commit crimes against victims age 13 or younger, which went into effect on the same day Collins was arrested.
As part of his sentence, Collins must complete a sexual offender program while incarcerated, and can then petition for early release after serving 20 years of his sentence.
Once released from prison, Collins would be ordered to have no contact with the victim or any child under age 16 and would be on probation for the rest of his life.
