A sex offender who told authorities he's been on the run for six years has been arrested in Cottonwood.
Sheriff's spokesman Karl Bentz said Monday that 27-year-old Clint Jerome Rant was pulled over for having a headlight out on Highway 260 in Cottonwood at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
When the deputy ran a check on Rant, he found that he had two warrants out of Maricopa County for violating his probation on child fondling charges and failing to register as a sex offender.
Rant was arrested on charges of identity theft, marijuana possession and false reporting for giving the deputy a different name when he was pulled over.
Rant will be held in Yavapai County until Maricopa County authorities can pick him up for the warrants.
