A convicted sex offender indicted last week for first-degree murder in the death of a man in Jacksonville Beach in June has pleaded guilty.
On June 12, the body of 39-year-old Scott Hofmann was found in an alley behind Dick's Wings on Third Street North.Within hours, police Jacksonville Beach police arrested Michael Dean Small, 47, on a charge of failing to register as a sex offender and named him as a person of interest in the homicide.
After police said DNA evidence from the crime scene was a positive match with Small, the Duval County grand jury indicted him on a charge of first-degree murder.On Thursday, police said Small agreed to plead guilty to a charge of second-degree murder in exchange for a sentence of life in prison with no parole.
