A registered sex offender failed to notify a youth sports group in Gulfport of his conviction when he volunteered as a coach, Harrison County Sheriff Melvin Brisolara said.
Deputies today arrested Anthony Littleton Cannon, 30, at his residence on Stratford Place in Gulfport. He was held at the Harrison County jail on $25,000 bond set by Justice Court Judge Albert Fountain.
Cannon was convicted in 1998 on three counts of sexual battery in Denton County, Texas. He registered his address with the Harrison County Sheriff's Department and the state Department of Public Safety in 2001, the sheriff said.
However, the law requires convicted sex offenders to notify an organization of their past in writing if the offender will have "direct, private and unsupervised contact with minors," said Brisolara.
