Registered Sex Offender Arrested In Sexual Assault Case

A 25-year-old registered sex offender was arrested after police said a 16-year-old who has an intellectual disability with mild retardation, reported that she was sexually assaulted while being transported in a taxicab in October.

Police said the girl was en route to her Naugatuck residence from an educational facility in North Haven by means of a cab. Police identified that driver as Gerald Terry, who is currently incarcerated within a State of Connecticut Department of Corrections facility.

At the time of the incident, Terry was a registered sex offender in the State of Connecticut, and was wanted on probation violation charges.

Terry was charged with sexual assault in the first degree, kidnapping in the first degree and interfering with a police officer.

Police said the taxicab was subleased to Terry without the knowledge of the taxi company, which said Terry was not an employee.

He is being held on $400,000 bond.
