During sessions, Begley either sat and refused to speak, or he blamed the victim.
A 53-year-old Fort Blackmore man convicted of incest in 2001 was sent back to prison this week.
Jerry A. Begley was sentenced in October 2001 to 10 years imprisonment on three counts of incest. Seven years of the sentence was suspended.
Begley served the three years and was released on probation.
He was attending sex offender counseling, Scott County Commonwealth’s Attorney Marcus McClung said.
“He always went, and he was always on time, but he wasn’t actively participating,” McClung said.
During sessions, Begley either sat and refused to speak, or he blamed the victim. His counselor believed he had not made any progress.
Because of that, Begley was sentenced to serve another year and a half in jail, McClung said.
After spending the next 18 months in prison, Begley will have to start probation and sex offender counseling all over again.
“The day he gets out, he will be on intensive, supervised probation for five years and be required to complete sexual offender treatment,” McClung said.
Most often, offenders do not attend the meetings, and that is why they are sent back. But the judgment here was that it is equally important that they participate in their treatment, McClung said.
