Aiken County deputies arrested a 53-year-old child molester in a North Augusta home early Friday morning.
Deputies arrested 53-year-old Billy McCarty of 624 Boylan Street in North Augusta at a home there.
McCarty was convicted in Georgia of child molestation in 1989. After being released from prison in South Carolina in February 2007, he failed to register as a sex offender in Aiken County, according to deputies.
Failure to register is a misdemeanor punishable by 90 days in jail, and deputies say no part of the sentence can be suspended.
In addition, sex offenders have 10 days to notify the sheriff's department in writing of any change of address.
