David Gervin - Repeat Sex Offender

A registered sex offender is charged with armed kidnapping and attempted sexual battery after police say he forced a 55-year old homeless woman into an alley at knifepoint where he tried to rape her, but her screams for help were heard by an alert resident who called police.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, a resident who lives near 330 East Dania Beach Boulevard heard a woman screaming for help around 5:00 a.m. Saturday morning.

When BSO Deputy Eric Rodriguez arrived on the scene, he spotted 26-year old David Gervin trying to sexually assault the woman.

Deputy Rodriguez acted quickly but quietly and approached the suspect and victim. When he was just feet away, the deputy jumped put and startled Gervin who tried to run away but Rodriguez tased the man and took him into custody.

The victim was treated on the scene for minor cuts.

BSO investigators say Gervin is a registered sex offender from Palm Beach County. His original charge was from North Carolina and he's also a known "Bloods" gang member from North Carolina.

Gervin is facing charges for armed kidnapping and attempted sexual battery.
