A Ferndale woman using her computer inadvertently discovered her neighbor was downloading child pornography, police say.
The woman, who lives in a different flat in the same building as the suspect, called police Jan. 28 after noticing explicit titles stored in her neighbor's folders, police said. Tenants in the building all use the same wireless router.
The titles were explicit in nature and indicated the file contained child pornography, police said.
The information allowed the detectives to establish probable cause and get a search warrant for the suspect's apartment.
Howard Alan Folk was arraigned Wednesday at 43rd District Court before Magistrate Larue Mead on charges of possessing child sexually abusive material, a felony punishable by four years in prison.
Bond was set at $5,000 cash surety or 10 percent. According to court officials Thursday, it didn't appear Folk had posted the bond.
