A Camarillo man has been arrested at the Bonaventure Hotel where he was discovered in a room with a 15-year-old boy who had passed out from alleged alcohol consumption.
Richard Willrodt, 48 was taken into custody on Saturday after a couple in an adjacent room in the downtown hotel complained about noise, Lt. Paul Vernon of the Los Angeles Police Department's Central Area said.
Willrodt initially promised the complaining couple the other two would quiet down. However security was summoned a short time later. The fire department was also contacted because Willrodt's companion had passed out from apparent alcohol consumption, Vernon said.
"Once inside the room, paramedics realized the young man was under age and they called for police," Vernon said.
"This man drove all the way from Camarillo to East Los Angeles to meet a young boy he merely knew from the Internet. Willing or not, children under 18 years old cannot give consent for sexual relations. This is a very serious crime."
According to Vernon, Willrodt met the boy on Craigslist.com.
Willrodt's laptop computer, in addition to other evidence, has been seized to investigate an intent for sexual relations, Vernon said.
Willrodt was taken into custody on suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor, a felony. Bail has been set at $20,000, Vernon said.
The boy was examined at a hospital and released to his guardian.
"This case should be a loud wake up call to parents to monitor and limit their children's activity on the Internet," Vernon said. "We are releasing Willrodt's photograph in the event he may have contacted other children in similar rendezvous."
