Police say a young boy was sexually assaulted by a man in a bathroom at the Stoneybrook West golf course community near the Florida Turnpike in Winter Garden.
The suspect wasn’t hard to find; the man left his drivers license information at the security gate.
53-year old Larry Cox of Apopka actually met the boy on line. Lt. Jon Johnson of the Winter Garden Police department said Cox and the under-age boy agreed last week in an online chat to meet.
After the initial encounter in the restroom, detectives say Cox took the minor to Cox’s home in Apopka.
What Cox didn't realize was when he left the restroom, he was being watched. A person who was passing by the restroom saw the suspect walking out, got a bad feeling and called police.
“We received a tip that a gentleman had exited the restroom,” Lt. Johnson said “That it looked suspicious and there are some other things the tipster saw that he said wasn't right and reported it to us.”
Using the mans drivers license information, police went to Cox’s home. There they arrested Cox and found pornographic items and journals, none relating to child porn. But have yet to review the material in the four computers he owns.
This investigation can take a different course depending on what they find on those computers.
Cox is being held here at the Orange County Jail without bond charged with sexual battery, obscene communication, traveling to meet a minor, and transporting a minor.
