Marc Fossorier - Internet Predator Busted

A nationally-recognized University of Hawaii professor, who used the Internet to set up a sexual meeting with a child, was sentenced to a year in jail Wednesday.

With a crowd of supporters behind him, Marc Fossorier stood before an Oahu judge and prepared to hear his punishment for electronic enticement.

He was an award-winning electrical engineering professor at UH Manoa until his arrest last October.

Investigators say the 43-year-old went online and had sexually-explicit conversations with an undercover agent who was posing as a 15-year-old girl.

Fossorier says he made a terrible mistake.

"I wish to sincerely apologize to the court, the community, my colleagues, my friends and my family," the convicted Internet predator said.

The native of France faces possible deportation, and must register as a sex offender.

He's scheduled to start his one-year jail term Thursday.
