Roger Alan Scherner - 79 year old Child Molester

The U.S. Marshals Service has arrested a 79-year-old man who fled to Florida after failing to show up for his child rape trial in Seattle.

Roger Alan Scherner was arrested Thursday in Panama City, Fla.

The Carmel, Calif., man was scheduled to stand trial Feb. 28 on two counts of child rape and one count of child molestation. Prosecutors say he raped a 7-year-old girl who was vacationing with him in Bellevue, east of Seattle.

Now a teenager, the girl told her mother about the alleged abuse five years ago.

Scherner is being held at the Bay County Jail in Florida and faces extradition to Washington state.
