Gerald Curland - Boy Scout Leader busted for Child Porn

A man who volunteered for the Boy Scouts of America was charged Wednesday with possession and distribution of child pornography.

The Sheriff's Special Victims Unit began an investigation of Gerald Curland last year when an Internet provider notified authorities of child pornography images in an e-mail attachment allegedly sent by Curland, said Deputy District Attorney Marc Beaart.

Investigators seized evidence at Curland's home and arrested him Tuesday, Beaart said.

Curland, 63, of Los Angeles, volunteers as a commissioner with the Boy Scout's Cahuenga District and works as a freelance marketing consultant, said Beaart.

A message left Wednesday afternoon with a Boy Scouts spokeswoman was not returned. Attempts to locate a phone listing for Curland were unsuccessful, and it was unclear whether he had been assigned an attorney.

Bail was set at $40,000, and arraignment was scheduled for Thursday. If convicted of both felony counts, Curland faces a maximum term of nearly four years in state prison.
