A 43-year-old registered sex offender is back in custody on charges of sodomizing his 27-year-old roommate Thursday afternoon and later physically assaulting the man in their shared apartment in San Carlos.
Luis Flores - a convicted child molester, according to the state's sex offender database - was found hiding in another apartment in his neighborhood on Thursday night.
Police were called to Flores' apartment in the 1100 block of Laurel Street at about 9:45 p.m. to respond to a report of a battery in progress. When officers arrived, they found Flores' roommate on the sidewalk outside the apartment building, San Carlos police Sgt. Mark Robbins said.
The man told police he had just been physically assaulted by Flores, Robbins said. According to the alleged victim, Flores had sodomized him against his will earlier that day, the officer added.
Authorities transferred the man to San Mateo County General Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Flores and his alleged victim had been roommates for a while, said Cmdr. Jon Read, who declined to specify the nature of the two men's relationship.
No domestic violence charges were brought by police, Read said.
Instead, Flores was booked in the county jail at 7 a.m. Friday on suspicion of one felony count of sodomy of an unconscious victim, one felony count of sexual penetration with a foreign object and one misdemeanor count of battery, Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
Flores, who is in custody in lieu of $100,000 bail, is scheduled to be arraigned Monday afternoon.
If convicted of all the charges, he faces 10 years in state prison.
