Crain was listed as a sex offender last fall when accusations surfaced that he’d sexually assaulted the 4-year-old daughter of his girlfriend at their Fond du Lac home, according to a criminal complaint.
A 49-year-old Fond du Lac man will spend the rest of his life in prison after a judge sentenced him Thursday on a second sexual assault conviction.
During a sentencing hearing in Fond du Lac County Circuit Court, Richard R. Crain, formerly of South Hickory Street, was ordered to serve 46 years in prison.
Judge Dale English also ordered the twice-convicted sex offender to spend 20 years on extended supervision.
Crain was listed as a sex offender last fall when accusations surfaced that he’d sexually assaulted the 4-year-old daughter of his girlfriend at their Fond du Lac home, according to a criminal complaint. Crain was convicted in Florida over a decade earlier and spent eight years in prison there for a sex crime involving an ex-girlfriend's child, according to the complaint.
He’d been living with his girlfriend for two years in Fond du Lac when a social worker learned about the recent sexual assault from a baby sitter, the complaint said.
The girl’s baby sitter was giving the girl a bath when the child became scared and prevented the sitter from washing certain parts of her body, claiming it hurt because the man had touched her there, according to the complaint.
The girl said the assaults occurred more than once, the complaint said.
During a trial in February, a jury found Crain guilty of first-degree sexual assault of a child.
