A New York man pleaded guilty in federal court today after he was arrested in Moreno Valley for trying to arrange to have sex with a 13-year-old girl decoy he met online.

Douglas William Evert 46, of Dover Plains, NY will face at least 20 years in federal prison in connection with his plea.

Evert began talking with a girl who he knew as "Allison" through MySpace. She was actually an undercover investigator with the Riverside County Sexual Predator Internet Decoy Enforcement team, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Evert was met by police in Moreno Valley at a fast food restaurant off Pigeon Pass Road in April after he had arranged to have sex with the girl. During the online chat, Evert said he was having a relationship with an 11-year-old girl, U.S. Attorney's officials said.

Evert pleaded guilty in federal court in Riverside today to charges of using the Internet to attempt to entice a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity and committing the offense as a registered sex offender, officials said.

He is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 20.
