A registered sex offender from Carthage has been arrested in federal child pornography charges.
Clifford Shultz, 56, was indicted this week by a federal grand jury for alleged possession and distribution of child pornography. He's in federal custody without bail.
According to The Watertown Daily Times, Shultz was found with computer discs containing some 9,000 child porn images.
In 1989 Shultz was convicted of raping a 6 year old female relative in Watertown. He served a 3-9 year state prison sentence.
He is listed as a level 3 offender on the New York State Sex Offender Registry.
The Sex Offender Registry website warns that Shultz was to have no unapproved contact with anyone under age 18, and was not allowed in places where children congregate.
His arrest comes after a joint investigation by New York State Police and the F.B.I.
