An Evansville man convicted of child molesting in 1997 is facing new charges after allegedly filming himself engaging in a sexual act with a 17-year-old girl.
Robert C. Welborn Jr., 37, is being held at the Vanderburgh County Jail on two preliminary counts of child exploitation. Bond is set at $100,000.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in the case, Welborn's live-in girlfriend discovered the tape of the sexual act and recognized Welborn and the 17-year-old girl. She reportedly turned it over to the girl's father, who gave it to police.
Welborn was arrested as he was leaving his North Side home. Police say he was suicidal and told officers it was "because of the ... videotape."
Welborn is listed on the Vanderburgh County Sex Offender registry. According to that database, he was convicted in 1997 for molesting a 12-year-old child.
