In 1972, Miller was convicted in Santa Clara County of molesting the mother of the current victim and sent to state prison
An Aptos man convicted of molesting a family member more than 30 years ago was found guilty Friday of molesting his first victim's child, according to the District Attorney's Office.
Judge Samuel Stevens found Stanhope Miller, 67, guilty of two counts of felony child molestation during a court trial, which means the judge, not a jury, ruled on the case. The abuse took place at Miller's home over several years when the girl was 8-10, prosecutor Andrew Isaac said.
Miller was arrested at his workplace in Watsonville in July 2007 after an intensive Sheriff's Office investigation led by detective Krissi Durant, according to the District Attorney's Office. He has been in County Jail since.
Miller will be sentenced for the current case on Nov. 13. Stevens found that Miller is a habitual offender, which means he faces a sentence of up to 50 years to life in prison, according to the District Attorney's Office.
In 1972, Miller was convicted in Santa Clara County of molesting the mother of the current victim and sent to state prison. He later had to register as a sex offender, Isaac said.
He also has a 1960 conviction for committing a sexual crime against a child, for which he was placed on probation.
