Wilmington police arrest a registered sex offender after a 17-year-old was sexually assaulted at gunpoint on her way to her school bus stop.
It happened around 6:30a.m. Thursday on the 3000 block of North Jefferson Street.
Police say the teen was on her way to school when a man armed with a gun approached her and forced into a back yard.
Once there, investigators say the man sexually assaulted her and fled the scene.
On Friday, 22-year-old Jermaine Carter was arrested in connection with the teen’s assault, a separate second sexual assault, and three armed robberies.
Carter has been charged with two counts of Rape in the 1st degree, Kidnapping in the 2nd degree, two counts of Unlawful Sexual Contact in the 1st degree, Robbery in the 1st Degree, Possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, Possession of a deadly weapon by persons prohibited and Unlawful sexual contact against a child by a sex offender.
Police say Carter was armed with a silver semi-automatic handgun when he was taken into custody. He has also been charged with Resisting Arrest, Possession of a deadly weapon by persons prohibited, Carrying a concealed deadly weapon and Possession of a deadly weapon in a school zone.
