Charles A. Robbins, 50, of North Chenango Street, will appear today before a federal judge for a bail hearing in Binghamton's U.S. District Court.
Robbins faces federal charges of receiving and possessing child pornography, according to a complaint filed by Agent James T. Lyons Jr.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Miroslav Lovric said Robbins' case could go before a federal grand jury as early as this week. Meanwhile, he remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
Robbins' e-mail address came to light while European police were investigating customers of Sergio Marzola, an Italian national picked up in Europe in a 28-country sweep of child pornography producers, Lyons said in court documents.
Customers could purchase child pornography via a Web site and either download the videos or have the child pornography sent to them via U.S. Postal Service.
Marzola had at least 1,400 customers in the U.S. and the FBI alleges Robbins is one of them.
Lovric declined to say Monday whether anyone else from the Southern Tier had been identified.
Robbins admitted to police Friday that he downloaded child pornography form Marzola's site and paid for them with Western Union money orders, court documents indicate.
Investigators seized multiple compact discs, DVDs and a personal computer Friday from Robbins' apartment, Lyons said in court documents.
Two of the DVDs contained girls younger than 18 in sexually explicit poses and conduct, court documents indicate.
A witness also told investigators she'd seen Robbins looking at child pornography on his computer. She also said Robbins videotaped her while she engaged in sex with him and transferred the recordings to his computer.
At least 60 Americans have been arrested in the international child porn sweep. The Department of Justice has joined with European police in the investigation. So far, 11 children gave been identified as victims of the international porn ring.
