Jamail Hairston - Repeat Sex Offender - “You sick [expletive] pig. How could you do that?”

A Dorchester man charged with raping a 10-year-old girl saw his pregnant girlfriend storm out of a Roxbury courtroom yesterday when she learned that he was a registered sex offender.

Jamail Hairston, 24, was arraigned on charges he raped a family acquaintance inside a van on Mount Pleasant Street on Saturday. The details of the alleged crime elicited gasps from the court, and a sharp reaction from the defendant’s girlfriend.

“Are you serious?” she yelled after Assistant District Attorney Byron Knight revealed to the court that Hairston was a sex offender. The woman, who did not wish to speak with Metro, then berated Hairston — convicted when he was 17 for indecent assault — as she was led out of the court. “You sick [expletive] pig. How could you do that?”

Hairston’s girlfriend and the aunt of the victim later embraced, seemingly united in the ordeal.

According to Knight, the family of the victim called authorities after she and Hairston did not return from a trip to the store Saturday afternoon. The victim was found “visibly shaken” and began to tell her family what happened.

After a description of Hairston was broadcast to officers he was located nearby and arrested.

Relatives of the victim cheered when Judge Robert Tochka set Hairston’s bail at $250,000. The defendant will return to court Jan. 8.
