Moving? Check for sex offenders near your new digs

Lots of people are moving right now because of foreclosure or because they're simply downsizing.

But there is an important reminder if you're moving into a new neighborhood.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety want you to take time to check out the state's Sex Offender Infocenter.

Harold Sanders with DPS says a quick point and click and you'll have all the info you need.

He says if you type in an address on the site, you might be surprised. "So, you get a minimum of seven that are located in a two mile range."

"The name of the offender, the physical address, and it will also give the physical description of the offender. And it will also give a one line description of conviction. For many of them, it may be multiple types of convictions, but you'll have a one line summary of the most serious convictions."

"We have approximately about 14,000 registered sex offenders in Arizona," he says, "Only the Level 2, Level 3 will be on the Web site."

Sanders says Level 1 offenders, which are not listed, are less likely to be repeat offenders.

Sanders says the information is not meant to be used to harass the offenders in any way but to give residents a heads up on who's who in their neighborhoods.
