Don Sorenson III - Repeat Sex Offender - Internet Predator

A man accused of raping a teenage girl he met over the Internet was sentenced today. He committed the crime while on probation for other child sex abuse charges.

Don Sorenson III, 24, will serve one 15 years to life sentence for the first-degree felony rape of a child, and another five to life sentence for another single count of felony rape with a minor. He will serve his sentences concurrently. The judge said he took Sorenson's previous convictions into account when deciding on the sentence.

Sorenson admitted to having sex with a 13-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl. Both of the victims told authorities that 24-year-old Sorenson claimed to be 18 years old and that he sent them pictures of his genitals via cell phone.

According to court documents, a 16-year-old girl alerted the Utah Attorney General's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force about a registered sex offender dating young girls he met on MySpace.

In 2006 Sorenson was charged with two counts of unlawful sex with a minor, he pleaded guilty to reduced charges in June 2007 and was ordered to 90 days in jail and two years probation. He was also placed on the sex offender registry.

The Utah Attorney General's Office says Sorenson committed these two latest counts of rape only a few months after he was released from jail. He's still waiting to be sentenced for violating that probation, too.
