Erwin Mettler - Repeat Sex Offender Busted for Child Porn

A 61-year-old registered sex offender was arrested Wednesday by Volusia County Sheriff's investigators, accused of 12 counts of possessing child pornography.

Erwin Mettler was ordered held in the Volusia County Branch Jail with bail set at $60,000, Sheriff's spokesman Brandon Haught said.
Mettler was convicted of lewd and lascivious assault in the presence of a minor in 1994 in Duval County, Haught said. Although he completed his prison sentence and probation, he was designated as a sexual offender and is required to register with authorities, which he did, Haught said.
Mettler rented a room in the 900 block of Tater Road near New Smyrna, Haught said. Earlier this month, he was admitted to a hospital and during his stay there he requested that his landlord go into his room to retrieve some clothes for him. While looking for the clothing, the landlord discovered a stack of printed pictures of adolescents engaged in sex acts, Haught said.

The landlord then reported the find to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office and officers with the agency's sex crimes squad obtained a search warrant and went into the room Wednesday morning.

Mettler admitted to downloading the images from the Internet and printing them, Haught said.
