K.J. Britt - Cuts of GPS and tries to murder woman

A man from Cocoa was charged Tuesday with attempted murder in connection with the attack on a woman in which deputies say he cut her throat.

K.J. Britt, 44, also is charged with kidnapping the woman, who was identified Tuesday as Courtney Carver, 23, of Cocoa.

According to deputies, Britt and Carver knew each other and got together about 6:20 a.m. Sunday. A dispute led to the beating, during which deputies say Britt knocked Carver unconscious and put her in his car truck.

In woods off Industry Road, Britt cut her throat and stabbed her, according to the report. He came back later with a blanket, then left again, deputies said.

Carver walked out of the woods on Monday morning and was taken to the hospital.

Britt was taken into custody on Monday evening, first on charges of violation of probation and removal, destruction of tampering with an electronic device. He is being held in Brevard County Detention Center on $100,000 bond.

Britt, a registered sex offender because of a prior sexual battery case, removed his monitoring device and threw it in trash in after leaving Carver in the woods, deputies said.
