Sheriff’s officials arrested a 64-year-old registered sex offender Thursday and charged him with lewd or lascivious molestation after he reportedly touched a 5-year-old girl inappropriately, according to officials.
The victim told Detective Owen Confessore that James M. Silcox touched her private area, and allegedly told her not to tell anyone. The incident occurred between Halloween and Christmas of 2008.
Silcox told the detective he picked up the victim by the waist and may have accidentally touched her private area.
He was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail.
The state’s Department of Corrections Web site shows Silcox was convicted in Marion County in 1992 for coercing a child involving a sex act. He was released in November 2001.
