On May 8, 36-year-old Jonathan Patrick Blevins of Huntsville was arrested and charged with four counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child after he confessed to repeatedly sexually assaulting four girls between the ages of 4 and 7 during the years 1988-1992.According to Detective Eric Scott of the Huntsville Police Department, the victims, who requested anonymity in all reports associated with the offenses, initially filed statements alleging abuse from Blevins in 2003.
Police investigated their claims, but were unable to obtain enough evidence to convict Blevins.
“The victims wrote statements on him in ’03. We investigated, but we just didn’t have enough on him at the time, and the case went cold,” Scott said. “Then recently the AG’s office received some information that he might be in possession of child pornography, so we went to his house, and he basically broke down and confessed to assaulting the four girls.”Blevins also consented to have his computer and several hard drives confiscated by the Attorney General’s Office for further examination, though he did not explicitly confess to possession of child pornography.
After being interviewed by police, Blevins was transported to the Walker County Jail and booked on the four sexual assault charges. His bond was set at $80,000, or $20,000 for each offense.
According to Scott, charges of possession of child pornography are still possible pending an examination of Blevins’ computer.
