Robert Nist is a level one sex offender. He was arrested Tuesday at his home in the 200 block of E. Nordin. Investigators also searched his home, looking for videotapes and other evidence associated with the sexual assault of the girl.
Probable cause for the arrest came from detectives in Reno, Nevada, who believe the sexual abuse took place both in their city and in Spokane.
Detectives say the young girl told them Nist videotaped her naked and was physically and sexually abusive. Several videotapes were taken from Nist's home, but they have not been reviewed.
Nist spent time in prison twice. The first time in 1952 for First Degree Assault, stemming from an attempted rape and the second time in 1967, for Burglary, Second Degree Assault, Kidnap and Rape.
Nist was booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of Rape of a Child in the First Degree and Sexual Exploitation of a Minor.
