Vernon Ingersoll - Repeat Sex Offender - Tried to Lure Teen

Police yesterday said they are looking into what kind of contact a Manchester teenager may have had with Vernon Ingersoll, the convicted pedophile who allegedly violated his parole by approaching a teenager in Hudson on Tuesday.

The 63-year-old, who lives at 77 Market St., was arrested Tuesday in Victory Park. He had been on parole for a child pornography conviction and was returned to the New Hampshire State Prison, where he will eventually go before the Parole Board for a hearing.

Meanwhile, police suggested that parents talk to their children about strangers who offer gifts or ask for help to find a lost pet or any other item.

Ingersoll had supposedly offered to purchase the Hudson teen a soda on Tuesday.

Hudson police said the teenager felt uncomfortable, fled the area and told his parents. Meanwhile, a passing motorist saw Ingersoll trying to lure the boy into his car, tried to approach the vehicle and wrote down the license number.
Ingersoll's actions are a violation of his parole, which was granted just over a year ago.
Corrections department spokesman Jeff Lyons said the Parole Board has up to 45 days to hold a hearing, but usually defers the hearing pending resolution of any new criminal charges. Ingersoll's maximum release date is May 2021.

Ingersoll was paroled June 25, 2008, after serving six years of a 5-to-20 year sentence on child pornography charges out of Merrimack County. According to the state police sex offender list, Ingersoll was also convicted in 1989 in Escambia County, Fla., on a charge of felonious sexual assault of a child under 13.
