Howard I. Weinberg - Iowa City Psychologist - 10 years for sadistic child pornography

A former Iowa City Psychologist was sentenced to ten years in prison for child pornography charges.

Howard I. Weinberg, 61, of 332 S. Governor St., who was charged in April for possessing sexually explicit materials involving children was sentenced by the United States District Court Friday, and will be required to spend ten years on supervised release following incarceration, according to a U.S. Department of Justice Press Release.
While the defense offered into evidence the progress Weinberg had made in therapy since the arrest, the United States Attorney’s Office entered into evidence numerous images and a series of Internet chats involving Weinberg and possible minors wherein child pornography images were exchanged, according to the press release.
After being notified by a computer business in April, Police obtained warrants for the computer and Weinberg’s residence and, with assistance from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI, seized numerous computers, hard drives, peripheral equipment, flash drives, cameras, iPods, CDs and DVDs, computer equipment and documents.

At Sentencing, the U.S. District Court Judge John A. Jarvey, denied a request to reduce the sentence. He noted the young age of the victims in the images, over 2,500 images, the substantial period of time the conduct occurred, the possession of images of bondage and torture, and the need to protect the public, and ordered Weinberg to be placed in custody immediately.
