Kevin Aaron Todd - Repeat Sex Offender - Charged in vicious assault

The suspect in a brutal stabbing and sexual assault in Neosho over the weekend served prison time in California for forcible rape.

Kevin Aaron Todd, 49, remained in custody Tuesday at the Newton County Jail in Neosho on bonds totaling $375,000.

Todd is facing five felony counts for allegedly holding a 49-year-old woman captive in his home for about 12 hours over the weekend and sexually assaulting her after stabbing her multiple times with a barbecue fork. The woman escaped and fled naked to a neighboring residence for help when her attacker fell asleep, according to police.

Todd is on the Newton County Sheriff’s Department’s sex-offender registry for a rape he committed in 1979 in California.

Sheriff’s Department records show that he was convicted of forcible rape of a girl under the age of 18 in San Bernardino County. He served nine years of his sentence in prison and completed his parole in 1994.

Sheriff’s Department records show that Todd first registered as a sex offender in Newton County in July 2006. Investigators have not said if his alleged victim in Neosho was aware of Todd’s criminal history.
Todd is charged with first-degree assault, forcible rape, forcible sodomy, felonious restraint and armed criminal action in connection with the attack inside his home on West Spring Street.

A probable-cause affidavit filed by police in Newton County Circuit Court states that he pulled the woman inside the home when she came to his door to get some personal belongings Saturday afternoon. He allegedly stabbed her multiple times in the living room and dining room with a barbecue fork.

The woman had stab wounds and lacerations to her chest, head and hands and a broken finger when she was found by police early Sunday morning.

She told officers that Todd tied her up, put her in a bedroom closet and raped her. He later allegedly sexually assaulted her with a baseball bat and then left her tied up in a bathroom while he took a nap, according to the affidavit. He allegedly told her before going to sleep that when he awoke he would kill her, the affidavit states.

Police said they seized a bloody barbecue fork, blood-soaked clothes and carpet, and some small baseball bats when they served a search warrant at the home after the woman’s report of the crime.
