Bounds, who reportedly spent 21 years in a Massachusetts prison for armed rape, faces felony charges of rape and burglary.
Police continue to search today for a registered sex offender who allegedly raped a 70-year-old woman.
William Bounds, 48, allegedly raped and robbed the woman Wednesday in her apartment at the West Park Senior Center apartments on 27 West Second St.
"He had a knife and threatened to kill the woman if she didn't submit to his wishes," said Mansfield police Lt. John Wendling. “He didn’t cut her with the knife, but she was pretty shaken up.”
Wendling said Bounds, of 284 Chester Ave., entered the building through the main doors.
“They have tons of people in and out of there all the time,” he said. “It’s not very secure. The security thing is basically for nighttime and this incident happened at 4 in the afternoon.”
Wendling said the victim was taken to MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital and has been released.
Bounds, who reportedly spent 21 years in a Massachusetts prison for armed rape, faces felony charges of rape and burglary.
“There are now warrants out for him that will go out in all states,” Wendling said. “He is a registered sexual predator with us, which means he’s the worst of the worst.”
Wendling said Bounds has family in Mansfield.
“Investigators have been to the house where we thought this man was living,” Wending said. “There is someone living there, but it was not him.”
Wendling said police are unsure if Bounds is still in the area.
“He could be in Mansfield, he could be in Massachusetts,” he said. “We haven’t had any sightings, but we know who we’re looking for. We had some basic ideas of where he was at that didn’t pan out, so now we’re checking other places.”
According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department sex offender search, Bounds is 5’9, 165 pounds and has scars on the right side of his neck and above his left eye.
