A convicted child molester who was ordered Tuesday to stand trial on new sexual assault charges involving a 19-year-old woman was freed on his own recognizance while awaiting his day in court.
Prosecutors and District Judge Mary P. Murray agreed to void the $50,000 bail set for Jimmy Dale Doughty after he agreed to waive his right to a preliminary hearing.
The woman told authorities Mr. Doughty began assaulting her when she was 11 and he lived with her family in Beltzhoover. The assaults continued, she said, after the family moved to Moon, and ended when he moved from their residence in November, according to a police affidavit.
Mr. Doughty, 47, of Moon, faces trial on 19 counts including rape and corruption of minors. He pleaded guilty in 1995 to charges that included statutory rape, incest and child endangerment stemming from incidents that dated to 1987, according to court records.
